Canadian Volunteer Service Medal; War Medal 1939-1945; and Memorial Cross, George VI (L.A.C. WESTLAKE D.E. R209246). Naming is impressed, with the original rank having been erased and re-engraved on the MC, the two medals are un-named as issued. Un-mounted, very light contact, near extremely fine. Accompanied by a Royal Canadian Air Force Cap Badge (bronze, unmarked, 37.5 mm x 44 mm, intact lugs and pin); and a St. John Ambulance Brigade Cap Badge (white metal, non-magnetic, marked "REGISTERED AT St JOHN GATE LONDON" on the reverse, 35.2 mm x 47.4 mm, intact lugs and pin).
Footnote: R/209246 Leading Aircraftman David Ernest Westlake, Royal Canadian Air Force and St. John Ambulance Brigade, was the son of Alfred E. Westlake and Gladys Westlake of Toronto. Westlake died on December 12, 1946, at the age of 23 and is buried in Toronto (Park Lawn) Cemetery, Toronto, Ontario, Grave Reference: Sec. S. Lot 894. Grave 1. He is commemorated on page 591 of the Second World War Book of Remembrance and is acknowledged on the War Graves Registers: Circumstances of Casualty, 1914-1948 as Second World War service personnel killed in Canada, including personnel involved in the British Commonwealth Air Training Program.
