Brazil, Republic. An Order of Rio Branco, Grand Cross, by H. Stern

(Ordem do Rio Blanco). Instituted February 14, 1962. A Brazilian Order of Rio Branco; Grand Cross Set. The Cross presents in silver gilt with white and blue enamels, with a gold gilded center medallion with the inscription VBIQVE PATRIAE MEMOR, the reverse medallion dated 1845 1912, measures 62.1 mm (w) x 74.7 mm (h), weighs 63.09 grams, suspended from a an elongated loop and worn on a full length blue and white silk sash, enamels intact, light gilt wear throughout cross, remains extremely fine. 

The Grand Cross Breast Star, multi piece construction, in silver gilt, an eight point star with a super imposed white enamel Maltese cross with the central inscription VBIQVE PATRIAE MEMOR, the reverse offers a single vertical pin, maker mark in the center denoting H.Stern, also marked PRATA 1000 under the hinge, the star measures 76 mm (w) x 76 mm (h), and weighs 95.05 grams, enamels intact, loss of gilt on rays, in extremely fine condition. 

The set is contained in the original case of issue, blue leatherette exterior, interior lid marked H. Stern BRASIL, with blue velvet medal bed and sash compartment, measures 18.5 cm (w) x 32 cm (l) x 6.5 cm (d), missing the clasp, light wear to exterior, staining and discolouration to interior lid, in very fine condition. 

Accompanied by a miniature cross, in silver gilt and enamels, worn on a ribbon with a small rosette denoting Grand Cross class, measures 18.5 mm (w) x 23 mm (h), enamels intact, very fine.
