(2. LIEUT. H.T. MACKIE. R.A.F.). Naming is officially impressed. Replacement ribbon, very dark patina, edge nicks, very light contact, near extremely fine. Accompanied by a copy of his Service Record from the National Archives.
Footnote: Herbert Thomas Mackie enlisted with the Royal Flying Corps as a Sergeant Clerk (49832) for the duration of the war, on November 7, 1916, naming his next-of-kin as wife, Mrs. A.E. Mackie of London. The Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service merged to form the Royal Air Force on April 1, 1918. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on March 14, 1918, his trade stated as Clerk (General) and his pay documented as four shillings and nine pence. He was posted to No. 2 Stores Depot on September 5, 1918, and it was here that he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on October 2nd. Two days after his promotion, he was transferred to No. 3 Air Depot, on October 4th. Mackie survived the war and was transferred to the Unemployment List on January 28, 1919.
