Germany, Wehrmacht. An Infantry Assault Badge, Silver Grade, by Fritz Zimmermann

(Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen in Silber). Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, diagonally across the badge is a Karabiner 98k rifle with the bayonet attached and the carrying sling hanging from the rifle, the reverse with a crimped hinge situated within a rectangular border and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch affixed to a plate within an oblong border, maker marked with the logo of Fritz Zimmermann, Stuttgart, measuring 49.21 mm (w) x 63.09 mm (h), weighing 21.3 grams, a superb example retaining the vast majority of its original silver finish, in extremely fine condition.
