Germany, Third Reich. A Customs and Border Protection Winter Service Cap

(Zollgrenzschutz Winterfellmütze). An extremely well-preserved Zollgrenschutz (Customs and Border Protection) winter service cap, constructed of a field-grey wool base. Fold-down flaps surround the exterior, and consist of a dark blue-grey cotton blended cloth base topped by a thick layer of rabbit fur, with the extended sides offering optional ear and neck protection to the wearer. When not in use, the former roll up and are sacred in place over the crown with a drawstring. Stitched onto the peak is a T-shaped insignia consisting of a field-grey rayon base, bearing a machine-embroidered silver aluminum wire Customs and Border-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, in turn situated above a tri-colour cockade, measuring 70 mm (w) x 50 mm (h) overall. The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece dark blue-gey cotton blended liner, which is stamped on the crown with a size mark of “57”. The cap measures approximately 21 cm (w) x 26 cm (l) x 16 cm (h). Demonstrating no notable damage or wear, this high-quality official’s cap remains in an extremely fine condition.
