Japan, Imperial. A Medal of Honour, with Case

Instituted December 7 1881. In silver, a round medal bearing Japanese kanji encircled by a wreath on the obverse, reverse plain, worn on a decorative suspension with clasp indicating the date of conferral, a dark blue ribbon with hook and eye on reverse,  measures 30.2 mm (d), dark patina, minor wear, in very fine condition. Contained in its case of issue, a black lacquer case with dark red silk and velvet interior, accompanied by a bow lapel pin in dark blue ribbon, the case measures 54 mm (w) x 98 mm (h) x 28 mm (d)

The dark blue ribbon indicates the medal was awarded to an individual who made a donation of at least five thousand yen for the well being of the public.
