Hardcover, entitled "German Combat Badges of the Third Reich, Volume 1, Heer & Kriegsmarine" by Michael F. Tucker, First Edition, text and photographs copyrighted by the author in 2002, the book design and graphics copyrighted by Stephen Thomas Previtera in 2002, published by Winidore Press of Richmond, Virginia, printed in Hong Kong, Library of Congress Catalog Card Number 2002107425, ISBN 0-9673070-1-5. It chronicles in great detail the German Combat Badges of the Third Reich through the extensive use of detailed text and multiple photographs. As stated on the back cover: "They were worn as badges of both honor and accomplishment. No other military force in history ornamented its soldiers like the German Wehrmacht, and within these pages is the proof. "German Combat Badges of the Third Reich" is a comprehensive study of the title subject unparalleled in its depth of full-color photographic splendor. Hundreds of detailed images commissioned especially for this master reference capture all the classic German badges from perspectives collectors and historians want to see. See for yourself. This book will not only enhance your reference library, but more importantly, it will enhance your knowledge. Volume One features the badges of Germany's Army and Naval forces." It begins with a Table of Contents, followed by a Foreword by Vice Admiral (Retired) Horst von Schroeter of the Federal Germany Navy, an Acknowledgement and an Introduction. The book is divided into eighteen chapters: I - Infantry Assault Badge; II - Panzer Assault Badge; III - General Assault Badge; IV - Army Paratroop Badge; V - Army Flak Badge; VI - Anti-Partisan Badge; VII - Army Balloon Badge; VIII - Close Combat Badge; IX - Wound Badge; X - U-Boat Badge; XI - U-Boat Combat Clasp; XII - S-Boat Badge; XIII - High Seas Fleet Badge; XIV - Destroyer Badge; XV - Minesweeper Badge; XVI - Auxiliary Cruiser Badge; XVII - Blockade Runner Badge; XVIII - Coastal Artillery Badge. It concludes with a seven part Glossary (A - Maker's Icons, B - Badge Makers, C - LDO Numbers, D - Lieferant Numbers (numerically listed), E - Lieferant Numbers (by maker), F - Analysis of Badge Weights, G - Terms/Translation), a two page Bibliography and a three page Index. The book contains 454 pages of text in English, printed in four-color inks, on a semi-coated paper stock, with images printed on the front and back covers in colour, measuring 222 mm (w) x 286 mm (h) x 35 mm (d). It exhibits slight edge wear and scuffing on the cover, however, the pages within remain pristine. Better than very fine.
