Description
(Unterschriften). A mixed lot of four Third Reich-period notable figure signatures, including:
1. A small wartime signed portrait depicted Reichsminister of Food and Agriculture Walter Darré, consisting of a colour image of Darré in an SS uniform, pasted to an off-white paper back with Darré’s handwritten signature in clear black ink at the bottom edge, measuring 7.5 cm (w) x 9 cm (h) overall, in extremely fine condition.
2. A wartime signed postcard of then-Kapitänleutnant (later Kapitän zur See) Wolfgang Lüth, in uniform and with the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross (24 October 1940) with Oak Leaves (13 November 1942) clearly visible (absent are the Swords, 15 April 1943, and Diamonds, 9 August 1943), the lower half overlaid by Lüth’s handwritten signature in black ink, the reverse unused and bearing a Hoffmann studio mark, measuring 9 cm (w) x 14 cm (h), in extremely fine condition.
3. A signed postcard of then-Oberst (and later Generalleutnant) Adolf Galland (Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross, 29 July 1940; with Oak Leaves, 24 September 1940; Swords, 21 June 1941), and; Diamonds, 28 January 1942), depicted in a flight jacket and holding a dog, with the lower half of the image overlaid by Galland’s handwritten signature in black ink, the reverse unused and with a Berlin studio mark, measuring 10.5 cm (w) x 15 cm (h), in extremely fine condition, accompanied by a typewritten letter from Galland, dated 5 August 1986 and compiled in Bonn, featuring a brief response to Barbara Jean Houfek in Atlanta, Georgia, thanking her for a letter requesting signed photos of himself for her teenage sons, with an additional postcard (the example offered) also enclosed, featuring Galland’s personal letterhead and an additional handwritten signature in black ink, an interesting complement to the image in extremely fine condition.
4. A postwar signed photo of Oberst Hans-Joachim “Hajo” Herrmann, depicted in uniform and with the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross (13 October 1940) with Oak Leaves (2 August 1943) and Swords (23 January 1944) clearly visible, with the lower border overlaid by Herrmann’s handwritten signature in black ink, measuring 8.5 cm (w) x 14.5 cm (h), in extremely fine condition, accompanied by a pre-war Fragebogen (Questionnaire), consisting of a double-sided page featuring Herrmann’s handwritten entries, dated 8 February 1935 and certified by a clear handwritten signature, measuring 21 cm (w) x 29.5 cm (h), a unique personal document from an individual who would go on to see a distinguished wartime career in extremely fine condition.
