(Wilhelmskreuz mit Schwertern). Instituted 13 September 1915 by King Wilhelm II. (1915-1918 issue). Constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon with horizontal pinback, consisting of a Cross Pattée with crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the obverse bearing a central wreathed monogram of King Wilhelm II, the six o’clock arm bearing an institution date of “1915”, the twelve o’clock arm bearing a royal crown, the reverse bearing a central raised inscription of “KRIEGS VERDIENST” (“WAR MERIT”), unmarked, measuring 44.50 mm (w) x 49.20 mm (h), weighing 29.5 grams (inclusive of ribbon), in extremely fine condition.
