Description

(Bảo-Quốc Huân-Chương). Instituted in 1950. In silvered and gilt bronze, marked "VIET-NAM" on the reverse cartouche, measuring 94.8 mm (w) x 95 mm (h), vertical pinback flanked by dual stays, very light contact, near extremely fine.

Footnote: The National Order of the Republic of Vietnam was established on August 15, 1950 when the State of Vietnam became a part of the French Union. The award was patterned after Napoleon's Legion of Honour of 1812 and the French Colonial Order of the dragon of Annam. The Dragon of of Annam belonged to the independent monarch under French control. It was awarded in five classes: I Class Grand Cross, II Class Grand Officer, II Class Commander, IV Class Officer and V Class Knight.
