United States. Two United States Army Officer's Visor Caps, C.1944

United States Army General and Field Officer's Service Cap (this fine quality cap has a 40 mm wide embroidered white cotton band, with the body of the cap fabricated from a white cotton, in the traditional flat top design with raised peak. The front is adorned with a 56.2 mm (w) x 62 mm (h) United States Army Officer's Cap Badge in fire gilt bronze, bearing the arms of the United States, illustrating an eagle with a shield on its chest, along with thirteen arrows in its left talons and an olive branch in its right talons, a ribbon banner inscribed "E PLURIBUS UNUM" with a seal bearing thirteen stars above, the badge with a screwpost and secured in place by a screwback on the underside. The black patent leather visor has a black two-piece chin strap in fine gold-colored bullion wire resting along the top edge, held in position via brass buttons bearing the Arms of the United States, as per the cap badge. The black patent leather visor itself has rank designation represented by clusters of oak leaves and acorns on either side, in the traditional "scrambled eggs" look. The underside of the visor has a black synthetic finish, the visor itself very stiff. The 50 mm wide sweatband is fabricated from a caramel brown-colored leather, stamped "AIRFLOW REG. U.S. PAT. OFF." on the front, with the two ends held together by a brown ribbon which is finished in a bow-tie. The sidewalls are lined in a wicker rattan, with a "7 3/8" size tag sewn in place on the right side, the dome covered in a white cotton, with an independent elliptical-shaped orange-tinted moisture shield placed over the white cotton lining of the dome and stitched in place at the front and rear of the cap, the cap measuring 272 mm (w) x 295 (d) x 130 mm (h), with light soiling evident on the exterior, along with discoloration in the gold-colored bullion on the chin strap); and United States Army Khaki Officer's Visor Cap (this fine quality cap has a 40 mm wide embroidered khaki cotton band, with the body of the cap fabricated from a khaki cotton, in the traditional flat top design with raised peak. The front is adorned with a 60 mm (w) x 60.8 mm (h) United States Army Officer's Cap Badge in bronze gilt, bearing the arms of the United States, illustrating an eagle with a shield on its chest, along with thirteen arrows in its left talons and an olive branch in its right talons, a ribbon banner inscribed "E PLURIBUS UNUM" with a seal bearing thirteen stars above, the badge with a screwpost and secured in place by a screwback on the underside. The brown leather visor has a two-piece chin strap in brown leather resting along the top edge, held in position via brass buttons bearing the Arms of the United States, as per the cap badge. The underside of the visor has a hunter green synthetic finish, the visor itself very stiff. The 35 mm wide sweatband is fabricated from a butterscotch-coloured leather, with the two ends held together by a khaki ribbon which is finished in a bow-tie. The sidewalls are lined in khaki cotton, with a "7 1/4" size tag sewn in place at the rear, the dome covered in a champagne moisture-resistant fabric, a diamond-shaped yellowish-beige patch stitched in place in the dome, the cap measuring 270 mm (w) x 285 mm (l) x 120 mm (h)). Both are free of mothing, with intact stitching. Together, near extremely fine.
