United States. An M-1906 Cavalry Sword, By Ames Sword Company

 Measuring 1,070 mm in length with the scabbard on, this sword features a 880 mm long, curved and fullered steel blade, magnetic, with a blade spine and a single very sharp edge, and having a dull tip. The blade's obverse ricasso is maker marked "A.S. Co." (Ames Sword Company) above a grenade and "1906", reverse ricasso marked "U.S." above the inspector's mark "JC", with some surface rust on the reverse of the blade. Leather washer at the base of the blade remains intact, the blade and washer having been lubricated. Blackened iron hilt is magnetic, housing a black leather wrapped grip with eleven rows of springy wire, finished with a dome-shaped pommel, the sword measuring 1,025 mm in length. The scabbard has a durable silvered iron body, magnetic, with a flattened u-shaped finial, two suspension rings protruding from the wrap-around loops, the scabbard missing its throat plate, exhibiting overall surface wear and rust, and measuring 920 mm in length. Very fine.

Footnote: The M-1906 Cavalry Sword is one of several that were toyed around with before the adoption of the M1913 "Patton" Sword. It is scarcer than the Civil War cavalry swords.
