United States; Two-piece construction, bronze gilt with green enamels, 48.2 mm (w) x 56 mm (h), missing its ring suspension and ribbon, intact enamels, contact marks evident on both sides of the cross base, near extremely fine.
Footnote: Award of the Air Force Cross was made effective on November 1, 1965 bu 10 U.S.C. 8742. The Air Force cross is intended to recognize the valor of any individual serving in any capacity, civilian or military, with the Air Force. To merit award of the Air Force Cross, the individual must distinguish himself by extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy. The degree of heroism, while of a lesser degree than that required for award of the Medal of Honor must never the less be so notable and involve the risk of life so extraordinary as to set the individual apart from his comrades. (C:41)
