United States. A Medal Bar

1.A Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal w. 2 Service Stars. In bronze, the obverse bearing the image of a Marine in full combat gear with a bayonet in hand, inscribed above is EXPEDITIONS, the reverse bearing an eagle perched upon an anchor with sprigs of laurel in its claws, flanked by the words FOR SERVICE, inscribed above the eagle is UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS, numbered M. No 5840 on the edge of the medal, on the original ribbon with two bronze service stars, 33 mm, very fine condition. 

Footnote: It was first established on 8 May 1919 as the Marine Corps Expeditionary Ribbon, and later authorized as a full-sized medal on 1 March 1921. It is awarded to a Marine who has engaged in a landing on foreign territory, participated in combat operations against an opposing force, or participated in a designated operation for which no other service medal is authorized. 

2. A WW1 Victory Medal w. 2 Bars and A Service Star. In bronze, the obverse bearing a winged Victory, the reverse inscription reads THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILIZATION with the coat of arms for the United States surmounted by a fasces, on both sides are the names of the Allied and Associated Nations,on original rainbow ribbon with two service clasps “St. Mihiel” and “Meuse-Argonne”, and silver citation star, 36 mm, in very fine condition. 

Footnote: An award of a common allied service medal was recommended by an inter-allied committee in March 1919. Each allied nation would design a 'Victory Medal' for award to their military personnel, all issues having certain common features, including a winged figure of victory on the obverse and the same ribbon. The Victory Medal was awarded to military personnel for service between April 6, 1917, and November 11, 1918, or with either of the following expeditions: American Expeditionary Forces in European Russia, and American Expeditionary Forces Siberia. 

3. A Yangtze Service Medal. In bronze, the obverse bearing a ship at sea with the inscription YANGTZE SERVICE, the reverse bearing an eagle perched upon an anchor with sprigs of laurel in its claws, flanked by the words FOR SERVICE, inscribed above the eagle is UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS, numbered M. No 64 on the edge of the medal, on the original ribbon, 33 mm, in very fine condition. 

Footnote: The Yangtze Service Medal is awarded for service in the Yangtze River Valley between September 3, 1926 and December 31, 1932, a period of significant unrest in the region. The decoration may also be awarded for those military service members who served on permanent duty in Shanghai, China, provided such service was in direct support of landing operations in the Yangtze River Valley.
