United States. A Lot of Three Medals and Awards to Carson E. Carroll (Purple Heart, Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal)

A lot of three United States Medals and awards to Carson E. Carroll, consisting of:

1. A Cased United States Purple Heart. (Instituted August 7th 1782 by George Washington). Of two-piece construction in the shape of a heart in bronze gilt and with purple, red, white, and green enamels, the obverse with a gilded leftward facing bust of George Washington affixed onto purple-coloured and heart-shaped enamels with the Coat of Arms of George Washington, consisting of a white enameled shield with two horizontally positioned red enameled bars and three horizontally positioned side-by-side red enameled five-pointed stars within a sprig of green enameled laurel leaves, the reverse consists of a raised bronze heart with the words “For Military Merit” in relief below the bronzen coat of arms, and engraved with “Carson E. Carroll” in capital letters below, on a fixed horizontal ball and squared oval loop suspension from its ribbon with a horizontal pinback assembly for suspension, measuring 34.5 mm (w) x 53.1 mm (l) including its pierced ball suspension, weighing 33.71 grams inclusive of its ribbon and pinback suspension, accompanied by its presentation case, constructed of a lightweight wooden frame with a textured black faux leather exterior, the exterior of the lid embossed with “Purple Heart” in capital letters as well as dual borders of golden wavy “crinkle crankle” lines on the top of the lid. The sides of the case are adorned with golden embossed lines on the top and bottom of the lid, the interior of the lid is lined in cream-coloured off-white silk, with a functional hinge assembly and intact interior hinge cover, with a felted medal bed with the addition of a horizontal pinback medal bar and a multi-coloured enameled boutonniere, measuring 80 mm (w) x 145 mm (l), in near extremely fine condition.

2. A United States Naval Good Conduct Medal. (Instituted June 28th, 1941). A round medal constructed of gilded bronze, on a pierced ball and swivel ring for suspension from its ribbon with a horizontal pinback assembly, the obverse with a central rightward-facing boat within a circular rope, with a fouled anchor, and chain, inscribed “United States Navy” in capital letters, the reverse plain, inscribed “Fidelity, Zeal, Obedience” in capital letters and named “Carson E Caroll”, measuring 33.1 mm in diameter, weighing 23.22 grams.

3. A United States Commendation Medal. (Instituted 1943). A hexagonal medal constructed of gilded bronze, on a pierced ball and swivel ring for suspension from its ribbon with a horizontal pinback assembly, the obverse with an eagle with a shield on its chest clutching three arrows in its talons, the reverse inscribed “For Military Merit” in capital letters, measuring 34.9 mm (w) x 44.1 mm (l), weighing 32.87 grams.
