Instituted June 4 1917. Civil Division. In silver, a member badge with the obverse inscription FOR GOD AND THE EMPIRE, the reverse is marked SG maker mark denoting Garrard and silver hallmarks including the lion passant, London city mark and ‘c’ date mark denoting 1918 manufacture, with surmounting crown, measures 48.9mm (w) x 63.3mm (h – inclusive of integral crown suspension), weighs 27.2 grams (including ribbon), worn on original purple ribbon denoting civil division with pinback at top, dark patina, minor wear, in near extremely fine condition.
Contained in its case of issue, a black leatherette exterior marked M.B.E, the interior lid is marked GARRARD & Co., with crème coloured velvet recessed medal bed, hinge and catch functional, light wear to exterior and interior, in overall very fine condition.
