United Kingdom. An Inter-War Royal Artillery Officer's Dress Uniform 1933, Named

Great Britain. Includes two pieces: tunic and pants. The tunic is fabricated from a fine-textured black wool on the exterior, the shoulders adored with shoulder straps composed of a single thick strand of gold-coloured bullion wire, in a thatched pattern, the strand wrapped around the small brass button at the neck end in a u-shape and forming two rows. Both buttons bear the Royal Artillery insignia and are without maker mark. The collar is in red wool and trimmed on all sides in the same thick strand of gold-coloured bullion wire, in a thatched pattern, as that used on the shoulder straps. There are bronze Ubique exploding bomb insignias affixed to both sides of the collar at the opening, held firmly in place by intact lugs and pins on the underside. The collar has a dual hook and eye closure at the opening, ensuring a snug fit at the neckline. The right sleeve is emblazoned with a Royal crown in gold-coloured bullion wire, in various textures, with violet felt in the void of the crown, touches of red, green and blue embroidery, along with black threading, in the base of the crown. Immediately below the crown is an artillery cannon in gold-coloured bullion wire, in various textures, the crown and cannon sharing a common black wool base and is sewn in place.

The aforementioned pairing is framed by Sergeant stripes, composed of three rows forming inverted chevrons in fine gold-coloured bullion wire, sewn in place upon a red wool base. The tunic is designed without pockets. The front is completed by six large brass buttons on the right side, each with the Royal Artillery insignia, the seventh button at the top having been lost to time, facing an equal number of reinforced button holes on the left, each of the buttons marked "MADE IN ENGLAND" on the reverse, the opening below the button trimmed on both sides in red wool piping. Both cuffs are trimmed in a stylized flame insignia, composed of a single thick strand of gold-coloured bullion wire, in a thatched pattern, the same type used on both the shoulder straps and along the edges of the collar. The rear of the tunic is single-vented and trimmed in red wool piping, with black wool pleated panels sewn in place on both sides, each panel with a flowing single thick strand of gold-coloured bullion wire, in a thatched pattern, along with four large brass buttons, each with the Royal Artillery insignia, marked "MADE IN ENGLAND" on their reverses. The inside of the tunic is lined in white wool, the adjoining sleeves lined in white cotton, the underside of the collar lined in black cotton. There is an embroidered manufacturer's label sewn in place just under the collar, the label inscribed "SHIRLEY BROOKS Ltd / 41 & 42 Artillery Place / WOOLWICH." and named in typewritten text to "J.W. Forster. Esq. / 250. 5.1.33." (January 5, 1933). The tunic measures 440 mm across the shoulders x 700 mm in length, exhibiting mothing in the red wool on the right side of the collar, black threading where the top front opening button one resided, along with wear in the white wool where it butts the white cotton lining in the left armpit. The pants are fabricated from black wool, matching that used in the tunic, the outside edge trimmed in a 50 mm wide band of red wool down the full length of both legs.

They are designed with a button down fly, incorporating four black plastic buttons on the right side, the fifth bottom at the bottom having been lost to time, facing an equal number of reinforced button holes on the right side, discreetly hidden under a flap, with a similar button above at the waist on the inside at the left, facing a reinforced button hole on the right side. The pants are designed with large side-entry pockets on both sides, each of which is discreetly hidden by the red wool band and lined in a thick off-white cotton. There are large black plastic sewn in place on both sides, for the placement of suspenders, while the rear of the pants has a small single vent. The inside is lined at the waist in white cotton, with an embroidered manufacturer's label sewn in place on the right side, the label inscribed "SHIRLEY BROOKS Ltd / 41 & 42 Artillery Place / WOOLWICH.". The pants measure 620 mm in width x 1,100 in length, exhibiting scattered mothing in both the black and red wool on the exterior, along with extensive wear, fraying and soiling in the white cotton lining at the waist on the interior. Both pieces have been laundered. Very fine.
