Two-piece construction, in bronze gilt with red, white, light blue and green enamels, illustrating Saint George facing right with flowing red cloak, a sword in his right hand, mounted on a white horse, a green dragon at his feet, surrounded by a wreath of red and white roses with laurel leaves, measuring 39 mm (w) x 44.5 mm (h) inclusive of its integral ring, blue enamelled suspension bar inscribed "St. GEORGE FOR ENGLAND", red, white and green enamelled rosette affixed to its white original ribbon with the red cross of St. George, the ribbon suspended from a blue enamelled hanger inscribed "THE ROYAL SOCIETY OF St. GEORGE", with vertical stickpin pinback, intact enamels, extremely fine. Accompanied by a St. George Pin in bronze gilt with blue enamels, measuring 29.5 mm (w) x 31.5 mm (h), vertical pinback; and a St. George's Society Membership Pin in bronze gilt with red, white and blue enamels, maker marked "W.O. LEWIS (BADGES) BIRMINGHAM" on the reverse, measuring 28.5 mm (w) x 29.8 mm (h), horizontal pinback.
Footnote: The Royal Society of St. George was founded in 1894 with the aim of promoting English values, the English way of life and English customs and traditions. It rapidly gained the support of many leading public figures, including Queen Victoria who became its first Royal Patron. Every subsequent monarch has lent their royal patronage to the Society and in 1963, Queen Elizabeth II granted the Society its own Royal Charter.
