Description

Instituted 1899. In silver, the rim officially impressed TRP A. E. GREEN. NESBITT’S HORSE. with CAPE COLONY and SOUTH AFRICA 1901 clasps, replacement ribbon, cleaned, scratches to obverse near 11 o’clock, very fine.

Footnote: Trooper A.E. Green is on the Queen’s South Africa Medal Roll in Nesbitt’s Horse Regiment, and was entitled to the Cape Colony and South Africa 1901 clasps.

Nesbitt's Horse was an irregular mounted regiment raised in South Africa during the Second Boer War (1899–1902) under Lieutenant-Colonel R. E. W. Nesbitt. Recruited largely from colonial volunteers, the regiment served in the Transvaal and Orange River Colony, performing reconnaissance, escort, and anti-guerrilla operations against Boer commandos. Its mobility and local knowledge made it well suited to the fast-moving mounted warfare that characterized the later stages of the conflict.
