A Queen’s South Africa Medal. Instituted 1899. In silver, rim officially impressed CORPL. A.R. ELLIS. NESBITT’S HORSE. with CAPE COLONY, ORANGE FREE STATE, JOHANNESBURG and SOUTH AFRICA 1901 clasps, bright, minor wear, extremely fine.

FOOTNOTE: Lance Corporal Alfred Richard Ellis is on the nominal roll for Nesbitt’s Horse during the Boer War. Nesbitt's Horse was an irregular mounted regiment raised in South Africa during the Second Boer War (1899–1902) under Lieutenant-Colonel R. E. W. Nesbitt. Recruited largely from colonial volunteers, the regiment served in the Transvaal and Orange River Colony, performing reconnaissance, escort, and anti-guerrilla operations against Boer commandos. Its mobility and local knowledge made it well suited to the fast-moving mounted warfare that characterized the later stages of the conflict.
