The P1804 Pattern British Royal Navy cutlass first produced in 1804 and used extensively and exclusively throughout and aboard every ship in the Royal Navy's worldwide fleet. This "figure 8" regulation cutlass made its debut at the Battle of Trafalgar, used during the War of 1812 with America, and all conflicts up until a new pattern was chosen by the Royal Navy in 1845.
The example offered here features a strong and straight steel blade, with the royal cypher for GR, with faded manufactures mark along spine of the blade for Osborn & Gunby who was included in the 1804 contract for this pattern, blade measures 72 cm in length, with broad arrow mark, steel ribbed handle is extremely heavily lacquered in black. The characteristic hilt in the figure 8 style; a rare and desirable early sword.
