(Military Division) A large sash badge in 18ct Gold with four white enameled arms with gold inlay, each with ball finials, detailed Gold lion in each quadrant, centres in red and white enamels with Gold tri crown motif, green enamel laurel surround denoting military division, well hallmarked on suspension, RG for Garrard, London, 1870 as well as 18 for Gold content with worn hallmarks on large suspension ring, measuring 81 mm (w) x 90 mm (h - inclusive of horizontal Gold ring suspension), weighing 91 grams, on period sash, light enamel wear, otherwise extremely fine. Accompanied by Grand Cross breast star of the order, in typical clockwise silver spiral design with hand filed detailing, large scaled cross overlay in Gold affixed by Gold prongs, with pronounced green enameled laurels, centre with hand filed motto over red enamels, reverse with gold pin and catch, measuring 85 mm (w) x 89 mm (h), with period repair to 3 o'clock arm, minor enamel contact, extremely fine.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
