A Military General Service Medal, in silver, full size, rim officially impressed JOHN GRAY, 79TH FOOT., on original ribbon with SALAMANCA clasp, small edge knocks around the edges, remains in extremely fine condition.

Footnote: James Pring served with the 11th Light. Dragoons, and was entitled to the Salamanca clasp.

At the Battle of Salamanca in 1812, the 11th Light Dragoons formed part of the British cavalry under the Duke of Wellington during the Peninsular War. The regiment participated in the pursuit of the retreating French forces following Wellington’s decisive victory over Marshal Marmont. Known for their speed and discipline, the 11th Light Dragoons contributed to the effectiveness of the British cavalry in harassing French infantry and securing the Allied advance across Spain.
