Nicholas II. In silver, impressed "15457 PTE. W.J. AGLAND. 1.R. FUS." on the edge, impressed "No 22177" on the reverse, measuring 28.2 mm in diameter, edge nicks, very light contact, original ribbon, near extremely fine. Accompanied by a letter from the Ministry of Defence, dated June 15, 1978 confirming his award of the medal and his gazetting.
Footnote: Private William Joseph Agland, 1st Battalion, Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) was awarded the Russian St. George Medal (AKA Bravery Medal) 3rd Class, by His Imperial Majesty the Emperor of Russia (Tsar Nicholas II), for gallantry and distinguished service in the field, the announcement appearing in the Second Supplement to the London Gazette 29275 of Tuesday, August 24, 1915, on Wednesday, August 25, 1915, page 812 and in the Edinburgh Gazette 12845 of Friday, August 27, 1915, page 1318. 15457 Private William Joseph Agland, 1st Battalion, Royal Fusiliers died on Thursday, May 20, 1915, at the age of 19. He is buried in Boulogne Easter Cemetery, Plot: VIII. D. 30. For his First World War service, he was posthumously awarded the 1914 Star.
