In silver, full size, rim engraved HIMINES SIM. S/S “MARY HORLOCK” 25TH JANUARY 1924, dark patina, worn on similar but incorrect replacement ribbon, remains in very fine condition.
Footnote: Himines Sim was a Filipino man working aboard the President Lines passenger ship SS President Taft in January 1924. The Taft was travelling from Japan to America. He was one of five individuals recognized for bravery, when they assisted the crew of a shipwrecked British Merchant vessel, the Mary Horlock. The Mary Horlock was a dry cargo carrier of 5,253 tons and served in the First War. The ship had been abandoned 700 miles off Yokohama after listing dangerously. She sank in the Western Pacific on January 26, 1924.
