A large lithograph and paper, First War propaganda poster, featuring a line of soldiers with an empty plank stating “THIS SPACE IS RESERVED FOR A FIT MAN” and the surrounding text “THERE IS STILL A PLACE IN THE LINE FOR YOU Will you fill it?”, printed by The Hancock-Cadle Co. London, and published by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee, No. 35, measures 53.5 cm (w) x 75.5 mm (l), with a reinforced left edge bearing four holes, plain reverse with pencil marks, minor creases and wear to edges, cracks and curling to the bottom edge, remains in near extremely fine condition.
Footnote: The PRC was the first official propaganda agency in Britain during the war, operating from August 1914 to the end of 1915. This poster was one of many created during a period of voluntary enlistment before conscription was introduced.
