Description

Instituted on December 15, 1854. A silver medal, obverse featuring the left facing effigy of Queen Victoria surrounded by the inscription VICTORIA REGINA, reverse presents the winged figure of victory placing a wreath crown on a soldier’s head, with the inscription CRIMEA vertically on the left side of the medal, suspended by a scroll suspension, unnamed, measures36.25mm (w) x 45.60mm (h – inclusive of suspension bar), 35.4 grams, missing ribbon, dark patina, light edge bruising, overall very fine condition.

Footnote: The Crimea Medal was established by General Order on December 15, 1854, to reward Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, and other ranks of the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Marines in recognition of service in the Crimea from 1854-1856 during the Crimean War. The Medal was also awarded to French troops who fought alongside British forces in the Crimea War, although it was not universally awarded in France.
