Instituted in 1919. In silver, circular medallion on a bar suspension; the obverse bears the profile image of King George V facing left, surrounded by the words GEORGIUS V BRITT. OMN: REX ET IND: IMP:, the reverse bears the image of Saint George naked on horseback, armed with a short sword, his horse trampling a Prussian eagle shield and cross and skull, regimentally impressed 3107859 SPR. F. J. FUHRMAN. C. E.; on orange ribbon with blue, black, and white vertical stripes, 36.1 mm, extremely fine condition.
Footnote: The British War Medal was a campaign medal instituted on 26 July 1919. It was awarded to those who had rendered service between 5 August 1914 and the armistice of 11 November 1918. Eligibility was subsequently extended to cover service in 1919 and 1920 in mine-clearing at sea as well as participation in operations during the allied intervention in the Russian Civil War.
