Turkey, Ottoman Empire. An Ottoman War Medal, by B.B. & Co.

(Harp Madalyası). Constructed of silvered tombak with enamels, consisting of a five-pointed star completing in ball finials, the obverse with red enameled arms demonstrating a classic strawberry seed-style pattern, overlaid by a raised and silvered crescent, surrounding a silvered Tughra of Sultan Mehmed V above an Islamic calendar date of 1333 (AD 1915), the reverse affixed with a two-piece suspension apparatus consisting of a rectangular base plate with catch and crimped hinge securing in place a horizontal pinback, maker marked “B.B. & CO.” for a widely-documented but unidentified manufacturer believed to be of German origin, measuring 57.16 mm (w) x 54.66 mm (h), weighing 28.8 grams, demonstrating moderate loss of silver finish to the base metal with minor flecking and surface scratching to the enamels, in extremely fine condition.
