(Harp Madalyası). Instituted in 1915. In fine zinc with red patination, Turkish-made, ball finials on the tips of the star points, measuring 56.2 mm (w) x 54.5 mm (h), horizontal pinback, replacement ribbon fed through the pinback, obverse with spotting on the exposed zinc, scattered chipping in the red patination throughout, surface wear evident on the reverse, very fine.
Footnote: The Gallipolli Star was a military decoration awarded by the Ottoman Empire. It is also known as the Ottoman War Medal. It was instituted by Sultan Mehmed V on March 1, 1915 for gallantry in battle. This decoration was awarded for the duration of the First World War to Ottoman and other Central Powers troops, primarily in Ottoman areas of engagement.
