(Mecidi Nisani). Instituted late 1851. (c. 1900 issue). A two-piece set of a cased Order of Medjidie, consisting of:
1. The breast star, of multi-piece construction, crafted out of silver and consisting of a seven-pointed multi-rayed star, each of the arms with multiple faceted rays, and with a crescent moon and star in-between each arm, the obverse with a gilded silver centerpiece showing the Sultan Abdul Meijid’s royal cypher surrounded by a Turkish inscription within burgundy enamels, the reverse plain, with a raised barrel hinge, banjo-style vertical pinback, and round wire catch as well as two down-ward facing hooks for attachment to an uniform, marked on the reverse twice in arabic, measuring 87.6 mm (w) x 84.7 mm (l), weighing 93.92 grams, with patina from age and light contact marks from wear, in overall better than very fine condition.
2. A neck badge, of multi-piece construction, crafted out of silver and consisting of a seven-pointed multi-rayed star, each of the arms with multiple faceted rays, and with a crescent moon and star in-between each arm, the obverse with a gilded silver centerpiece showing the Sultan Abdul Meijid’s royal cypher surrounded by a Turkish inscription within burgundy enamels, the reverse plain, suspended from a red enameled crescent moon and star and broad loop for suspension, marked in arabic, measuring 59.5 mm (w) x 56.8 mm (l), weighing 26.13 grams, with patina from age and light contact marks from wear, in overall better than very fine condition.
This set is housed in its case of issue, constructed of a lightweight wooden core with a burgundy faux leather exterior, the interior of the lid lined with off-white silk, with a single long exterior metal hinge but missing the liner on the flat side of the lid as well as the fabric hinge cover, measuring 250 mm (w) x 108 mm (l), in near very fine condition.
