Tunisia, French Tunisia. An Order Of Glory, III Class Commander, III Model, C.1950

(Nishan al-Iftikhar). Instituted in 1835. Type III with Cypher of Muhammad VIII al-Amin (1943-1957). In silver, with a green enamelled centrepiece, the star points in alternating red and green enamels, with three faceted rays between each star point, Tunisian maker marked on the reverse cartouche, measuring 61 mm (w) x 90.7 mm (h) inclusive of its hand chiseled bow suspension, chipping evident in the green enamels on the centrepiece and on the tip of the star point at 12 o'clock, on a replacement shortened neck ribbon, better than very fine.

Footnote: The Order of Glory was was instituted in 1835 by Al-Mustafa ibn Mahmud, the Bey of Tunisia and awarded to members of the ruling house, senior public servants and to senior officers for acts of bravery. It was awarded in six grades: Grand Cordon, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer, Knight 1st Class, and Knight 2nd Class. The order was awarded until the constitutional role of the Bey was abolished in 1957.
