A grouping of two third reich German military medals and awards, consisting of:
1. A textbook example of an Iron Cross 1939 First Class by C.F. Zimmermann (Eisernes Kreuz 1939 I. Klasse). Reinstituted September 1st, 1939. (1939-1945 issue). Constructed of iron and silver consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central mobile swastika, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1939”, the reverse is blank with a raised barrel hinge, vertical tapered pinback and broad wire catch, marked “20” on the reverse of the pinback for manufacture by C.F. Zimmermann of Pforzheim, measuring 44.2 mm (w) x 44.4 mm (l), weighing 17.5 grams, the paint on the cross well preserved with some signs of oxidation, with patina on the silver frame from age.
2. A Silver Grade Wound Badge (Verwundetenabzeichen in Silber). Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by a ribbon, the obverse with a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika on-top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a broad cast hinge and catch that are joined together via a vertical pinback, marked “65” for manufacture by Klein und Quenzer of Idar-Oberstein, measuring 36.9 mm (w) x 44.3 mm (l), weighing 30.19 grams, with some wear to the silver finish on the award, but overall well preserved, in overall better than very fine condition.
