Sweden, Kingdom. An Order of Vasa, III Class Commander in Gold

(Kungliga Vasaorden). Instituted May 29th, 1772. Type II (1860-1975). c. 1930 issue. A lovely Commander decoration, in Gold, silver and enamels, consisting of a white enamelled Maltese Cross with dual ball finials and Swedish Royal Crowns in the quadrants between the arms of the cross, the obverse features an oval roundel constructed of 18kt Yellow Gold and is charged with a vase and a sheaf encircled by a red enamelled band featuring the inscription “Gustaf den III. Inst. MDCCLXXII”, the reverse mirrors the obverse, surmounting crown with enamel details, measures 55.0 mm (w) x 82.9 mm (h), weighs 33.43 grams, enamels intact, lovely silver toning, very fine.

Contained in the original case of issue, constructed of a lightweight wooden core with a lightly textured red exterior, the interior of the lid is lined in padded off-white silk and is embossed with “C.F. Carlman, Stockholm” in gilt, measuring 60 mm (w) x 98 mm (l), hinge and clasp functional, light wear, very fine.
