Sweden, Kingdom. A Cased Order of Vasa in Gold, I Class Knight, c.1900

(Kungliga Vasaorden). Instituted May 29th, 1772. Type II (1860-1975). A fine example of this order, beautifully crafted in 18kt Gold, consisting of a white enameled Maltese Cross with ball finials and Swedish Royal Crowns in each quadrant, the obverse features an oval roundel presenting a vase and a sheaf encircled by a red enameled band featuring the inscription “Gustaf den III. Inst. MDCCLXXII”, the reverse mirroring the obverse, measuring 39.17 mm (w) x 60.62 mm (h - inclusive of crown suspension), 16.00 grams, with period original ribbon, with enamel cracking and flaking, otherwise very fine. Accompanied by the matching miniature of the order, also in Gold, measuring 16.91 mm (w) x 29.40 mm (h-inclusive of suspension). 4.5 grams with ribbon, extremely fine.
