Description
(Kungliga Vasaorden). Instituted May 29th, 1772. Type II (1860-1975). c. 1930 issue. An extremely well preserved and beautifully crafted example of this award, constructed of 18kt Gold, silver, and enamels, consisting of a white enameled Maltese Cross with dual ball finials and Swedish Royal Crowns in the quadrants between the arms of the cross, the obverse features an oval roundel constructed of 18kt Yellow Gold and is charged with a vase and a sheaf encircled by a red enameled band featuring the inscription “Gustaf den III. Inst. MDCCLXXII”, the reverse identical to the obverse, unmarked, measuring 39.2 mm (w) x 62.5 mm (l).
Accompanied by its presentation case, constructed of a lightweight wooden core with a lightly textured red faux leather (leatherette) exterior depicting a marbled exterior, the exterior with a functional metal hinge, intact interior fabric hinge cover, and functional push-button clasp closure, the interior of the lid is lined in padded off-white silk and is embossed with “C.F. Carlman, Stockholm” in gilt, measuring 60 mm (w) x 98 mm (l).
A fine quality jeweler-made example of a cased Order of Vasa, II. Class Knight, with the enamels extremely well preserved, and in overall better than extremely fine condition.
