(Orden de Isabel la Católica). Instituted 1815 by King Ferdinand VII/Fernando VII. 1931-1938 issue. A sash badge in silver gilt, consisting of a ball-tipped four armed Cross with finely executed red enamels, featuring multiple rays in each quadrant, with obverse center exhibiting an enameled Order’s insignia, surrounded by the inscription A LA LEALTAD ACRISOLADA (To Pure Loyalty), on an enameled white border, reverse center presenting a time of period Caravel symbolizing the Republican Regime, encircled by the inscription POR ISABEL LA CATOLICA (For Isabel the Catholic), suspended by an enameled green laurel wreath, measuring 43.05 mm (w) x 68.09 mm (h - inclusive of integral ball), on the original sash ribbon; accompanied by the star of the Order in silver gilt, centering a nicely ball-tipped four armed Cross in red enamels, featuring multiple rays in each quadrant, the obverse exhibiting an enameled handmade Order’s insignia, surrounded by the inscription A LA LEALTAD ACRISOLADA POR ISABEL LA CATOLICA (To Pure Loyalty, For Isabel the Catholic), on an enameled white and green border, surmounted by the Mural Crown, reverse with pin assembly and dual retaining pins, measuring 78.97 mm (w) x 79.59 mm (h), dark toned, extremely fine. A very scarce set of insignia of fine quality Spanish manufacture.
This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society. His knowledge and passion for history and awards is evident in this meticulously compiled collection that is now available in its entirety for the first time exclusively on eMedals.com.
