(Real Maestranza de Caballería de Granada). Instituted 1686. Alfonso XIII Period. A twelve-pointed hand filed silver star, with a delicate light blue-enameled rayed silver center, superposed by a typical of the time of period Spanish crown in silver gilt, and a silver gilt shield depicting the figure of Immaculate Conception, reverse with pin assembly and dual stays, measuring 70.13 mm (w) x 78.66 mm (h), missing blue enamels in the border of the centre shield, very fine.

Footnote: The Royal Cavalry Armory of Granada was instituted in Spain by the nobility of Granada on January 12, 1686. This Cavalry Armory became Royal when it was related to the Spanish Crown by King Felipe II/ Philip II in 1725, and it was approved by Carlos III/Charles III in 1764. The Armory was created as a corporation of nobility with the purpose of training the nobility of Granada in the values of traditional cavalry. Currently, the Armory belongs to the nobility of Granada. 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
