Description
(Orden del Toisón de Oro). Instituted by Felipe III on January 10, 1429. In silver gilt, a neck decoration of the Spanish Order of the Golden Fleece, consisting of a finely-detailed typical Spanish ram’s fleece in silver gilt, suspended by a stylized ribbed band in red enamel with a central genuine sapphire, the midsection is surmounted by an elaborate briquette of Hispano-Moorish style of knotted square patterns in light blue, dark blue and red enamel with a small green enamelled wreath in the center, reverse mirrors the obverse with backing of sapphire visible, connected by period ornate loop suspension with a vertical pinback, measures 44.45mm (w) x 64.95mm (h), weigh 58.3 grams, on original full-length neck ribbon, enamels intact, lovely patina, remains in extremely fine condition.
Accompanied by a small rosette of red ribbon with a buttonhole style backing, in very fine condition.
Contained in original case of issue, a dark red leatherette exterior with gilt border on the lid, the interior with a white silk lid, a velvet blue medal bed on the base with recessed areas, a designated area for a plaque in the front with four metal rivets present, measures 115mm (w) x 210mm (h) x 38mm (d), hinge and clasp functional, light wear to exterior, remains in very fine condition.
