(Orden al Mérito Naval). Instituted 1866 by Queen Isabel II of Spain. Alfonso XII issue. Of superb manufacturing, a beautiful beaded eight-pointed star in polished silver, the obverse featuring a white enameled Latin Cross with elegant golden edges in Gold (weighting 18k), superposed by a detailed enameled red and blue anchor also in Gold, surmounted by a pleasant enameled red Spanish royal crown and a clasp, both in Gold, concave reverse with pin assembly and dual stays, measuring 81.06 mm (w) x 80.68 mm (h), with minor toned silver on the reverse, otherwise near to mint.
Footnote: The Order of Naval Merit was established in Spain by Queen Isabel II/Isabella II on August 3, 1866. It was founded to recognize the Spanish Navy Force which was taking part of many overseas battles at that time. It was awarded to members of the Spanish Naval Forces, Civil Guard, civilians, and foreigners for meritorious and gallant actions within the sphere of naval service. The awards with white distinction were awarded in recognition of distinguished services and actions rendered to Spain in peacetime
