Spain, Kingdom. An Order Of Isabella The Catholic In Gold, Lady’s Commander, C. 1940

(Orden de Isabel la Católica). Instituted in 1815 by King Ferdinand VII. In 18k Gold, consisting of a red enamelled Maltese Cross with ball finials, featuring delicate clusters of five rays in each quadrant, obverse medallion exhibiting a hand-painted on enamel design surrounded by the inscription A LA LEALTAD ACRISOLADA (To the Pure Loyalty), reverse centre depicting the cypher of Ferdinand VII on an enamelled dark blue background, encircled by elegant enamelled white border inscribed POR ISABEL LA CATOLICA (For Isabella the Catholic), adorned by a detailed enamelled green laurel wreath suspension, measuring 41.25mm (w) x 59.75mm (h - inclusive of neck suspension), 20.0 grams, worn on a piece of the order’s ribbon, enamels intact, a rare lady’s decoration in near mint condition.

Footnote: The Order of Isabella the Catholic (Orden de Isabel la Católica) was instituted as the Royal and American Order of Isabella the Catholic (Real y Americana Orden de Isabella Católica) by royal decree of March 24, 1815. In 1938, the Order was extended to reward women in all ranges, but in a reduced size.
