Spain, Franco Period. An Order Of The Cross Of St. Raymond Of Peñafort, Grand Cross Star, C.1950

(Orden de la Cruz de San Raimundo de Peñafort). Instituted 1944 by General Francisco Franco. 1944-present issue. A ball-tipped enameled white Maltese Cross in silvered bronze, featuring the inscription S RAYMUNDUS / PENNAFORTI (St. Raymond of Peñafort) on the 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock arms, surrounded by a crossed laces in each quadrant also in silvered bronze, obverse depicting an enameled red, blue, yellow, and orange figure of St. Peñafort, with beneath enameled blue ribbon inscribed by Latin inscription IN JURE MERITA, reverse with ornament pin assembly and dual stays, measuring 66.68 mm (w) x 74.89 mm (h across sword), with minor tarnished silvered bronze, very fine.
