(Orden de Cisneros). Instituted 1944 by General Francisco Franco. 1944-1975 Issue. An enameled red Maltese Cross with ball finials in bronze gilt, the quadrants composing of cluster of five gilded crossed arrows, with obverse depicting a typical of time period enameled black Spanish eagle with gilded details, the reverse with vertical pin assembly and dual stays, measuring 75.17 mm (w) x 75.36 mm (h), with pin bent, extremely fine condition.
Footnote: The Order of Cisneros was instituted in Spain by General Francisco Franco on March 8, 1944. It was created after the end of the Spanish Civil War to reward those who served Franco during the war, and collaborated on the establishment of the new government. This Order is the civil Order that has been awarded the most to Spanish citizens. No awards have been awarded since 1977, when the Order was unofficially extinct.
