Description
An unique and highly rare lot of twelve original documents of the Spanish soldier Alfredo Medinilla Hernández, combatant of the Blue Division Eastern Front, member of the Spanish Falange, and ex-combatant of Northern Africa campaign. These documents sketch the military services rendered by the soldier between 1930s and 1950s, lot in very good condition, consisting of:
First, a handwritten invitation letter from the General Captain of the Spanish Fourth Military Division (Catalonia), Section 1, to Medinilla Hernández for the attendance of the Oath of Allegiance of the troops enlisted in Barcelona on March 24, 1912, the letter explains the itinerary of the day, is dated March 21, 1912, and presents original signature of the President of the Provincial Committee of Barcelona;
Second, a notification document from Colonel Don Manuel Estada Solans, Colonel of 4th section, Madrid, who expresses he was previously informed of the granting of the Ribbon of the East Winter Campaign Medal 1941-1942 by the German government to Medillina on December 19, 1942, with notification date of February 15, 1943, original Colonel’s signature, sealed by the Ministry of War in Madrid, reverse with handwritten name “Reimundo julio IV 11”, together with original East Winter Campaign ribbon for wearing in second button of field uniform;
Third, a certification letter from the Chief Commandant of the Spanish First Regiment, First Battalion, Don Angel Ramirez de Cartagena, informing that the Falangist Medinilla Hernández is enlisted at the 2nd Company of his regiment, which is going to serve abroad against communism, the letter is dated July 12, 1941, Madrid, with original signature of both Chief Commandant and Colonel (Don Miguel Rodrigo Martinez), as well as the seal of the Infantry Regiment of the Spanish Volunteers Division, together with two Falange Blue Division badges for field uniform, both featuring red Arrows and Yoke symbol on blue background;
Fourth, a German marching order from Vilnius Garrison, dated August 8, 1942, Vilnius, informing that the soldier Medinilla Hernández checked in at the 250 Division, detailing marching instructions for Medillina, certifying that the goods were provided to him and specifying his right for vacations, sealing by Vilnius Garrison, as well as by the Blue Division Garrison in Berlin where he had to arrive three days later, with signatures;
Fifth, a Spanish authorization document dated August 8, 1942, from the Blue Division Garrison in Vilnius, informing that the soldier Medinilla Hernández is authorized to cross the borders from Berlin to Hoff (Bayern), for taking place at the Hoff Blue Division, with original signature of Lieutenant in-charge, sealing twice by the Blue Division Garrison in Vilnius, the reverse with an understandable hand written note in Spanish, with signature, dated the same day;
Sixth, an official document of the Central Direction of the Spanish Falange of North Africa Division, dated on October 20, 1954, Tetuán, certifying that soldier Medinilla Hernández enlisted voluntary to the Blue Division in 1941 and he is an ex-combatant of the Eastern Front 1941-1942, reason why he is receiving the veteran carnet and identification number, issued in Madrid on October 8, 1942, the document is sealed and exhibits two period Spanish stamps;
Seventh, a certification document from the Provincial Direction of the Spanish Falange Party in Madrid, dated July 19, 1943, signed by Commander Don Arturo Paz Varela, informing that soldier Medinilla Hernández enlisted voluntary to the Blue Division on June 30, 1941, and finished his duties on August 22, 1942, sealed by the Provincial Direction in Madrid;
Eighth, a document in both German and Spanish certifying the granting of all the military German equipment to Medinilla Hernández, with date August 17, 1942, presenting typed lettering informing that the soldier received the Eastern Winter Campaign Medal, note dating April 25, 1945, Tarragona, with original signatures and German seal;
Nineth, an original newspaper of the Blue Division ”Hoja de Campaña”, 56 number, dated February 3, 1943, with several war pictures, news regarding the East Front, and the German and Japanese campaigns, as well as jokes and period Spanish comics, with several nationalist propaganda articles, informing of the new enlisted volunteers, and the granting of the Iron Cross by the German government to General Esteban Infantes; this is a highly recognized war newspaper, made by the Blue Division with the purpose of informing the soldiers about the situation in Spain and in the other fronts;
Tenth, a notification document from Jose Peiro Artal, Spanish Falange North Africa Division, Old Guard, who confirms the checking in of Medinilla Hernández in the Spanish Falange in 1934, reason why he is receiving the Old Guard Medal, original signature, sealed, exhibiting three period stamps on the top;
Eleventh, a typing personal letter, writing for a close friend of Medillina, expressing their best wishes on the campaign and a save return to home, dated May 7, 1942, on its envelope of Hamburg 11, Blue Division;
Twelveth, a diploma of the Spanish Falange Reward System division, awarding to Medinilla Hernández the Old Guard Medal with ribbon, on March 6, 1945, Madrid, document sealed and signed.
