Description
An extraordinary set granted to Don José Antonio Girón de Velasco, distinguished Falangist politician, consisting of:
First, a beautifully ornamented presentation plaque in silver, displaying engraved Spanish lettering announcing that the Excmo. Don José Antonio Girón de Velasco was named as Adoptive Son (Hijo Adoptivo) of the City Villa de Alar del Rey, Palencia, on March 9, 1947, as testimony of the city’s gratitude to his political work, presenting as well the engraved signatures of then members of the City Hall on the bottom. The plaque is framed by diverse chiseled floral patterns displaying between a detailed period Spanish coat of arms on the top and a nicely performed coat of arms of the city Alar del Rey on the bottom, the reverse is plain with two screws on the top, the plaque is marked with Spanish hallmarking denoting content silver of .915, together with maker’s mark of Dionisio Garcia Gomez, measuring 41.3 cm (w) x 37.5 cm (h - inclusive of both coat of arms), presenting strong toned silver and lost of gilt, otherwise very good condition.
Second, a Spanish General Court member badge in Gold, with obverse presenting a superposed Spanish coat of arms from Franco’s period, above of the gilt inscription CORTES ESPAÑOLAS (Spanish Courts), with a finely enameled background displaying the colors of Spain, the reverse with central button marked by unreadable Gold hallmark, together with Spanish maker’s mark from the second half of the 20th century, measuring 16.29 mm in diameter, weighing 3.8 grams, light contact, fine piece near mint condition. Together with original presentation case of the Spanish General Court member badge in red wood, the exterior lid presenting a silver plaque engraved with recipient's name JOSE ANTONIO GIRON, together with the name of the then Director of the Spanish General Courts CARLOS INIESTA, the case interior is black with gilt maker’s label VILLANUEVA Y LAISECA JOYEROS MADRID, measuring 69.50 mm (w) x 31.93 (h) x 72.11 mm (l), presenting light contact in the plaque, otherwise beautiful case in extremely good condition.
Third, a falangist member badge in Gold, with obverse featuring a delicate emblem of the Spanish falangist party in Gold, attached to a button marked CTRIA CARDENAL CISNEROS in brass, the emblem measures 6.7 mm (w) x 17.25 mm (h), weighting 1.4 grams, light contact, intact emblem, fine piece in extremely fine condition.
Footnote: Excmo. Don José Antonio Girón de Velasco was one of the most distinguished politicians during the government of Francisco Franco (1939-1975), who belonged to the falangist party from the Civil War (1936-1939) until the end of the regime. He was a lawyer who worked as National Delegate of the FET and JONS (1939-1954), Minister of Labour (1941-1957), and Court Attorney of the Spanish Courts (1943-1977). He was granted the Grand Cross of the Order of Military Merit, Grand Cross of the Order of Agrarian Merit, Grand Cross of the Naval Merit, Grand Cross of the Order of Carlos III, Grand Collar of the Order of Cisneros, among others. He passed away on August 22, 1995.
