Footnote: The Royal and Military Order of Saint Hermenegild was established by King Ferdinand VII in 1814 to reward exemplary and irreproachable military service by commissioned officers of the Spanish Armed Forces. Named after the Visigothic prince and martyr Saint Hermenegild, the order recognizes long and faithful service combined with exemplary conduct and remains one of Spain’s highest military distinctions.
