Footnote: Daniel Cupido was born on January 5, 1917. He was a resident of Heilbron when he enlisted as a Private (C322069) with the Cape Corps on July 1, 1942, at the age of 25, stating that he was married to Johanna Cupido, that his religion was Roman Catholic and that his occupation was that of Cook. He proceeded on service with 6 Cape Corps, Battalion "V", "F" Company on August 2, 1942. He was admitted to Hospital at Crown Mines on October 25, 1942 and discharged a week later, on November 2nd. He was re-admitted to the same hospital ten days later, on November 12th and after ten days recovery, was discharged on the 22nd. Six months after his last bout of hospitalization, he was admitted to hospital again, this time at Premier Camp on May 13, 1943, when his stay would entail three and a half weeks, before being discharged on June 6th. A month later, he would be admitted a fourth time to hospital, this time entering N/E Military Hospital at Premier Camp on July 8th, his stay lasting four days, before being discharged on the 12th. He was declared Absent Without Leave on December 26, 1943 but returned to his unit, 6 Cape Corps on January 4, 1944. Private Cupido embarked Durban aboard the S.S. Salween on September 11, 1944, disembarking at Suez, Egypt on October 4th. He served with 6 Cape Corps for fifteen months in Palestine and the Middle Eastern theatre, before embarking Suez on January 9, 1946, disembarking at Durban on January 20th. Private Daniel Cupido, Cape Corps was taken on strength at C.C.D.D. Kimberley, Northern Cape, South Africa on April 26, 1946, where he was discharged.
