South Africa. A Framed Second War Medal Set

In a large decorative frame, a group of four medals:

A 1939-1945 Star, in bronze gilt, full size

An Africa Star, in bronze gilt, full size, with 8th ARMY clasp on ribbon;

A British War Medal, cupro-nickel, rim privately engraved M.T. WITT; 

An Africa Service Medal, in silver, full size, rim privately engraved M.T. WITT. 

A Transvaal Scottish Volunteers Cap Badge, in white metal with red felt backing, full size, reverse not visible. 

Set into a glass frame with silhouette style backing and soldier’s info “242021 T.M. Witt” above the cap badge, measures 45.5 cm (w) x 42 cm (h) x 3 cm (d), plain reverse with horizontal wire hanger, glass cover, light wear,  extremely fine.

Footnote: This naming refers to a South African soldier of the Transvaal Scottish Regiment who served with the British Eighth Army in the North African campaign during the Second World War. The Eighth Army fought major actions against Axis forces across Libya, Egypt, and Tunisia, including battles such as El Alamein and the subsequent Allied advance westward. Service in this theatre placed Transvaal Scottish personnel among the multinational Commonwealth forces that played a decisive role in securing North Africa for the Allies.
