Somalia, Republic. An Order Of The Star, Grand Officer Star, By Artho Pozzi, C.1961

Instituted on 12 February 1961. A six-pointed silver star made up of sixty graduated rays with rounded ends, the face with a six-pointed star with ball-tipped finials imposed, each arm with two enamel panels of alternating mid- and light blue bearing a circular white enamel medallion imposed centrally bearing the Somali star and crescent in silver-gilt within a beaded silver-gilt border; the reverse plain with pin for wear and bearing a circular central cartouche with maker’s mark of Arturo Pozzi, Galleria Colonna 12, Rome, measuring 66.2mm (w) x 75.2mm (h), extremely fine. Accompanied by original case of issue, red leather wrapped leather, gold embossed detailing, interior lid marked Arthuro Lozzi, ROMA, extremely fine.

Footnote: The Order was instituted with other Somali awards following independence in 1960. Following the chaos of civil war, the awards are now in abeyance.

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967.
