Somalia, Republic. An Order of the Somali Star, II. Class Grand Officer

(Amarka Xiddiga Soomaaliyeed). Instituted in 1961. Constructed of silver gilt with light blue and white enamels, consisting of a five-pointed enameled star with light blue and white enameled arms and ball finals, the obverse with a central white enameled medallion bearing a leftward-facing leopard, the reverse with a similar white enameled medallion bearing the monogram of interlocking Latin letters “R” and “S” in gilt, suspended from a swivelling green enameled laurel and oak wreath bearing the blue enameled letter “S” as well as an upward-pointing gilded half moon, unmarked, measuring 57.0 mm (w) x 59.0 mm (l) without its suspension, in extremely fine condition.

Accompanied by a miniature boutinniere of the order, consisting of a bronze button, with a round boutonniere bearing aminiature of the star, measuring 16.2 mm, in extremely fine condition. 

With a presentation case, constructed of a lightweight wooden core, with a dark blue faux leather exterior, the exterior of the lid with a gilt Somalian coat of arms, the interior of the lid lined with silk, embossed with “A. Pozzi, Roma, Galleria Colonna, 12” in gilt lettering, with a space for placement of the ribbon as well as a recessed medal bed for the award, boutonniere, and a miniature and its ribbon (missing), functional exterior metal hinge with an intact interior fabric hinge over, measuring 124 mm (w) x 168 mm (l), extremely fine condition.
